Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days music and talent show showcases local musicians

The event took place in McArthur Park from Aug. 2-3.

LAC LA BICHE – The musical abilities of folks from the Lac La Biche region and beyond were showcased and celebrated over the Pow Wow Days weekend with a special music and talent show held at Lac La Biche’s McArthur Park from Aug. 2-3.

People who attended the two-day event could listen to singers and bands who performed songs in various genres ranging from country and bluegrass to rock and heavy metal.

The second day of the music and talent show featured a fiddling contest, with several performers and groups, including the Kikino Northern Lites, taking to the stage at the McArthur Park gazebo to do jigging and other types of dances.

The event, which was managed in collaboration with the Region One Aboriginal Business Association (ROABA), was put on in memory of the late Walter Quinn, a well-known performer in the Lac La Biche area who passed away about three years ago.

Shawn McDonald, president of ROABA, said the musical showcase went very well this year.

“It was a huge success despite the blistering heat,” McDonald told Lakeland This Week on Aug. 6.
