Lac La Biche RCMP continue search for fire-starters

Lac La Biche RCMP Notes:

Lac La Biche RCMP are continuing their investigation into a suspicious fire in Plamondon earlier in May that destroyed a pickup truck.

In the early morning hours — about 3 am — of Saturday, May 14, RCMP say they responded with the Plamondon fire department to a vehicle fire complaint.

When police arrived, they say a pickup truck that had been parked outside a residence near the Plamondon fire hall had been severely damaged by fire.

RCMP say two young people were seen by witnesses running from the area at the time of the fire.

Police are hoping that anyone in the area with security cameras, or witnesses who may have spotted something unusual that night can help with the investigation.

RCMP confirm occupants OK

Lac La Biche RCMP have confirmed that two people — a mother and her young daughter — sustained only minor physical injuries in a recent crash near Hylo that saw the vehicle roll into the ditch, cut a utility pole in half and flip over a barbed-wire fence and onto its roof beside a dugout.

crash rollover

The crash took place on Friday, May 20 at around 8pm. about a kilometre south of the Hylo hamlet.  RCMP, fire, ambulance and peace officers were all at the scene of the crash. Utility crews were also called as the downed utility pole caused a power outage in the Hylo area for about an hour.

Despite the condition of the vehicle and the distance it crashed from the highway, RCMP say the child sustained no physical injuries and her mother sustained only minor physical injuries.

"Witnesses told police that the collision appeared to be caused by an over correction by the driver. Alcohol or other intoxicating substances were not a factor," said Lac La Biche RCMP Const. Cassandra Calverley.
