LAC LA BICHE - During the weekend of August 4-6, as thousands of locals and visitors to the region were enjoying the sights and sounds of Lac La Biche Summer Days, RCMP were out in full force maintaining order and ensuring traffic laws were being obeyed.

Cst. Jordan Walker, a member of the Lac La Biche RCMP detachment, confirmed that police received 71 calls between Friday evening and Monday morning.

“This is fairly common for a Summer Days busy weekend post COVID,” Walker told Lakeland This Week. “Our detachment brought in additional general duty officers to support local members both in town for the events as well as during the Beaver Lake Powwow.”

Walker continued by saying that local officers were supplemented by members of the Athabasca and Boyle traffic units, who assisted with traffic related matters both in the hamlet of Lac La Biche as well as surrounding rural areas of the county.

The RCMP conducted two check stops over the weekend as well as random vehicle stops where tickets were issued for the following:

  • 1 IRS (immediate roadside suspension) FAIL/driving while suspended

  • 2 IRS FAIL

  • 1 Caution

  • 1 IRS Novice

  • 1 24hr IRS

  • 1 Suspended Driver

  • 10 speeding tickets

  • 5 seatbelt tickets
