Lac La Biche residents participate in 43rd annual Terry Fox Run

Dozens participate locally in annual fundraiser for Terry Fox Foundation

The  annual Terry Fox Run in Lac La Biche got underway on Sunday, Sept. 17, with roughly 40 participants taking part in the event.

At noon, the participants gathered at McArthur Place in Lac La Biche to register for the run, which commenced at 1 p.m., starting on Churchill Drive. There were five-kilometre and 10-kilometre options for participants to choose, with the first turnaround located just past Nashim Drive. Those who opted to either run, walk, jog, or cycle the full length of the course reached the junction of Mission Road and Pleasant Acres Road before turning around and heading back to McArthur Place.

The annual event in Lac La Biche has raised tens of thousands in donations in the decades it has been held.

The Terry Fox Run is held across Canada each year — in 650 communities — to raise money for cancer research and for people to show solidarity with loved ones battling the disease or to remember those who have passed away. The Run and the charity are the lasting legacy of Terry Fox and his 1980 Marathon of Hope.

To date, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised more than $850 million for cancer research
