LAC LA BICHE – Being a back-to-back winner is always cause for celebration. For the second year in a row, Lac La Biche Transport’s Tim Bingley won first place in the B-Train category at the Alberta Motor Transport Association’s (AMTA) Professional Truck Driving Championships.
The 2025 version of the event, which professional truck drivers refer to as “the rodeo” took place on May 31 at the Alberta Motor Transport Association yard in Nisku.
It “feels good,” Bingley said of winning the award again this year. Bingley has worked in the trucking industry for 30 years.
The career truck driver has been participating in the AMTA’s Professional Truck Driving Championships for the past two decades, and this year’s competition was nothing new for him.
“I pretty much know it pretty good now. Plus, I do it every single day,” Bingley said. “Practice makes perfect.”
According to Bingley, there are five different categories in the Professional Truck Driving Championships: Straight Truck, B-Pup, Tandem Day Cab, Tandem Bunk, and B-Train.
“Each driver at the event picks one category,” he explained. Bingley picked B-Train.
During the competition, Bingley had to pre-trip a Kenworth truck and find all the defects. He was also required to undergo a written exam and drive through an obstacle course.
“They make it all super tight, so it makes it competitive,” he said.
Once the competition had concluded, Bingley wasn’t overly surprised when he was chosen to receive the award for a second year in a row.
“I kind of knew in the back of my head that I was probably going to win it,” he stated.
