RCMP are saying a large police presence in the Young's Beach subdivision late last Friday afternoon was for reports of a break-and-enter in progress. Police confirmed on Monday that the complaint ended up being unfounded, but the response to the call drew serious attention.
More than half a dozen RCMP and municipal peace officer vehicles sped through the residential subdivision just outside the Lac La La Biche hamlet at around 5:30 that afternoon, arriving outside a home on Trinity Blvd and lining a portion of the normally quiet lakeside street. Police remained on scene for about an hour as the RCMP conducted an initial investigation and peace officers provided support.
On Monday, RCMP spokesperson Const. Chantelle Kelly said the large presence was likely due to the initial belief that a crime was "in progress."
Police say their investigation shows there was no immediate or continuing threat to area residents.
