Christmas is about to get a little brighter for the community and needy families. The Light Up the Night weekend kicks of Friday, December 1 and features a downtown Santa parade, a downtown fireworks show, a free hot dog and hot chocolate lunch, the lighting of the giant downtown tree and a fundraising push for the Lac La Biche Firefighter's Society's Santa's Helpers program.
The big weekend raises funds and spirits for the area's less fortunate, with all donations collected going towards food hampers and toys for the area's less fortunate families over Christmas.
The weekend will feature a Christmas holidays sale opportunity at downtown businesses, plus a $7,500 fireworks show and the lighting of the giant Christmas tree.
The weekend will also shed some light on this year's Junior Citizen of the Year and the brightest of the brights when it comes to downtown business decorations. The Junior Citizen award will be handed out to the local youngster who is nominated by friends or family for their selfless efforts. To nominate someone today, fill out the form here.
The Light Up the Night weekend, which has been planned by the Lac La Biche Firefighter's Society and a group of local volunteers for the last several weeks, will also feature a night time downtown parade. The Santa's Helpers program has been a part of the community for more than three decades, raising funds for the area's less fortunate. This year, once again, there will be several opportunities for residents to donate to the firefighters and the Santa's Helpers cause.
