An Edmonton-area man with some Lac La Biche connections — including being the victim of a police-officer beating in the local detachment's cell blocks in 2009 — squared off with local officers last week before being arrested after a bizarre downtown incident.

Lac La Biche RCMP say Andrew Clyburn will be in Lac La Biche Provincial Court this week after they arrested a man on Monday, April 29 following several reports about a person yelling at downtown traffic while removing his clothes and shouting profanities. Lac La Biche RCMP Corp. Roxanne Genereaux told the POST that officers responded at about 5 pm. that day to reports of an unknown male, wearing blue jeans, a red and orange checkered shirt, and sporting a a blond mohawk, with tattoos on his neck who was walking along 101 Ave yelling at passing cars, while he was removing his clothing.

"The male was then reported to be jumping in front of and hitting passing vehicles, trying to stop them. Members located the male on 101 Ave and 101 Street," Genereux said. "While members were speaking with him, he put his fists up and took a stance toward the member. The male was arrested at which time he uttered threats to the members."

Andrew Clyburn, 41, has been charged with assaulting a police officer, four counts of uttering Threats, public intoxication and resisting arrest.

A bail hearing was held, and Clyburn was released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in Lac La Biche Provincial Court this week.

Clyborn made headlines in 2009 after a Lac La Biche RCMP constable was charged with assault causing bodily harm and attempting to obstruct justice for an attack on a Lac La Biche prisoner that was captured on the cell-block's surveillance cameras. Constable Desmond Sandboe plead guilty to one charge of assault on April 13 of 2011 and was given a six month conditional sentence. Sandboe no longer works for the force. At the time, Clyburn told the POST and media from across the country that the officer went into a rage while trying to pronounced Clyburn's name after he had been arrested following a bar fight. The 40-second video clip showed the officer jump towards Clyburn, push his head into the wall and swing his fists at the man's head while they were both on the ground.

Clyburn said the assault caused him memory problems and affected his breathing.

Clyburn's most recent brush with the Lac La Biche law resulted in a bail hearing where he was released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in Lac La Biche Provincial Court this week to face the charges.
