No changes to NPLS board chair, vice-chair, following organizational meeting

The board of trustees for Northern Lights Public Schools held its annual organizational meeting on Aug. 28, re-electing board chair Karen Packard and board vice-chair Garry Kissel.

Board trustees with Northern Lights Public Schools held their annual organizational meeting on Aug. 28, re-electing Karen Packard as board chair trustee Garry Kissel returning as board vice-chair.

Nicole Garner, the NLPS communications manager, explains that the board holds an organizational meeting prior to the beginning of each school year to assign executive and committee roles for the elected trustees.

“These meetings always commence with the trustees electing the board chair and vice-chair for the upcoming school year,” Garner told Lakeland This Week.

Prior to being elected as a trustee, Packard served on school councils at Cold Lake Elementary School and Nelson Heights School. Kissel is a retired teacher and former administrator for NLPS.

“This is Karen Packard’s second term as a trustee as well as her third consecutive year as board chair,” Garner continued. “Garry Kissel, who was first elected as a trustee in 2007, is also entering his third consecutive year as vice-chair.”

The Northern Lights Public Schools board of trustees holds elections every four years to keep in alignment with municipal elections. The current board was elected in 2021. The next election will be held in October, 2025.
