OWL RIVER - On Dec. 31, the Owl River Recreation Association celebrated the arrival of 2025 by hosting an annual New Year’s Eve Dinner and Dance.
Melissa Mclean, a member of the Owl River Recreation Association who helps with putting on the event, said this year’s dinner and dance at the Owl River Hall drew a good turnout. The Owl River community is located in Lac La Biche County, 27 kilometres north of the hamlet of Lac La Biche.
“We had about 100 people,” Mclean told Lakeland This Week. “That’s quite a good turnout for us.”
Those who were at the event were able to enjoy an evening of festivities that included socializing, dancing, live music from the Plamondon-based country rock group Dusty Road, along with a meal that was catered by Lac La Biche County residents Denise and John Dolan.
According to Mclean, the Dolans volunteered their time to cook and prepare the meal.
Money raised from the New Year’s Eve dinner and dance goes toward the maintenance and upkeep of the Owl River Hall. Mclean said volunteers are instrumental in helping with the event.
“When we have more volunteers, we raise more money for the hall,” she said.
The dinner and dance is important for the community because it brings people together, said Mclean. She explained that there are quite a few elderly residents living in the Owl River area, and this event gets them out of the house and socializing.
“I like that family, friends, and community members and neighbours are getting together and able to see each other and visit,” she stated.
