A Plamondon man is dead after police say they responded to a drowning on Lac La Biche lake over the weekend.

Emergency crews were called out to the Mission area of the lake at about 10 am on Saturday after receiving reports of a small boat turning in circles on the water.

Lac La Biche RCMP report that there was no one onboard the boat at the time. The boat was reported to be about half a kilometre off shore.

RCMP members, Lac La Biche County Protective Services, Little Divide Search and Rescue along with a helicopter from Alberta Forestry took part in the search for the missing boater. After about 90 minutes the body of a 57 year old man was taken from the water.

Police say there is no indication of foul play and RCMP are not seeking any suspects in the death.

It is not known if the man had been wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident. He was confirmed to be the only occupant of the boat. Water conditions were reported to be calm at the time.

Lac La Biche County's Regional Fire Chief John Kokotilo said the community and first responders grieve with the family of the victim. He said firefighters in zodiac rescue boats from Lac La Biche's Station 1 fire hall and Station 2 in Plamondon took part in the search and recovery.

"Our thoughts go to the family," said Kokotilo.
