Plamondon to host 42nd Annual Trapper's Association Rendezvous and Outdoorsman Show

Officials with the Alberta Trappers Association are getting ready for a party in Plamondon next week, as the organization will host the 42nd Annual Rendezvous and Outdoor Show at the Festival Centre on July 10 and 11.

Officials with the Alberta Trappers Association are getting ready for a party in Plamondon next week, as the organization will host the 42nd Annual Rendezvous and Outdoor Show at the Festival Centre on July 10 and 11.

The two-day event will feature trapping and fur handling competitions and demonstrations by trappers from around the province, as well as plenty of activities for kids and families to enjoy, some vendors to buy furs from, a trade show and more.

“The rendezvous is our biggest annual get together,” said A.J. Callbeck, manager of operations and lead instructor with the Alberta Trappers Association. “There’ s lots of different presentations, demonstrations, competitions, kids events - there’ s all kinds of different things.”

The event is hosted in a different place every year - the organization tries to spread the rendezvous far and wide across the province, and decided on Plamondon for this year’ s event. Callbeck said it was a good choice of venue.

“The Lac La Biche and Plamondon areas have quite a bit of activity with trappers. One of our first rendezvous was in the Lac La Biche area, so historically we’ ve done them there before,” he said.

If all goes according to plan, the event could draw quite a crowd. Callbeck said the event usually draws a decent crowd whether it’ s held at a large or a small venue.

“Through the door, I’ d say they’ re pushing up close to 1,000 [attendees] for a really big one, and for a smaller one maybe 500 or 600,” he said.

The event gets underway on July 10 at the Festival Centre in Plamondon.
