A 22-year-old man was arrested in the early morning hours of March 17, after he allegedly stole a vehicle at gunpoint in the Young’ s Beach area earlier that night. The local man will be in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on March 30, facing numerous weapons-related charges.

He has been charged with armed robbery, carless use of a firearm, two counts of pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, using a firearm while committing an indictable offense, disguise with intent, and two counts of uttering threats.

Lac La Biche RCMP say they received a call about an armed carjacking in Young’ s Beach at about 11:00 pm on March 16. The complainant told police a man had forced him and his passenger out of their vehicle at gunpoint before fleeing.

Police attended the scene, and searched the area for the suspect. They found the stolen vehicle abandoned in the middle of a street, still in Young’ s Beach.

RCMP then called in a police dog, which tracked the suspect to a nearby house where he was arrested without incident. It was not the suspect’ s home, but he knew the owners and was legally there. There was also a firearm there, but police can’ t confirm it was the same one used in the incident.
