Police continue search for wanted man

Police think suspect has left the area

Rural Plamondon residents are back in their homes, and the man police say forced the evacuation has likely left the area.

On Tuesday, night, an RCMP manhunt for a person believed to be armed and dangerous saw police remove several people from their rural homes south of Plamdonon. A day  later, police say the residents were back in their homes and there is no more perceived threat for community members.

"Our investigation leads us to believe that he's no longer in our area," Lac La Biche RCMP Staff Sgt Charles Brown told LakelandToday on Thursday afternoon.

Local police, as well as RCMP Air Services and the RCMP Emergency Response Team were called to the area south of Plamondon — near Range Road 162 and Township Road 670 after a man allegedly ran from a vehicle after a long police pursuit. Some witness reports a vehiicle had been driving in and around Plamondon in the early evening hours — at one point with tires flattened. When police did manage to stop the vehilce, one man was said to have ran from the scene into nearby trees. On Wednesday morning, RCMP issued a province-wide media release saying the search was ongoing and that the public was not to travel in or around the area.

Today, however, the caution has been lifted, says Brown.

"At present, there's no threat (or) safety concerns from the community," he said.

RCMP media relations officer Corp. Ron Bumbry echoes Brown.

"Our teams searched the area extensively utilizing air, ground, police dog services and he was not located," Bumbry told LakelandToday. ca just ahead of a province-wide news release. "The search ended last night at approximately 6 pm and people in the rural area were returned back into their residences."

RCMP say the are continuing to search for 35 year old Darren Larose.

Larose is described as:

Indigenous,

5’11,

200 lbs,

black braided hair

brown eyes

tattoo under his right eye,

Last seen wearing dark pants and a sweater.

The initial police information said Larose was considered to be armed and dangerous and if anyone sees him they are to not engage him.
