Police continue to investigate suspicious houre fire

Lac La Biche police have had a busy week with several serious incidents, including a stabbing and the completion of a fraud investigation from an area business.
Last Thursday night, just before ten, Lac La Biche RCMP were dispatched to a report of a stabbing that occurred on 101st Ave, near 103rd St.
The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect is a 31 year old area man who is known to police. Local RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident and are hoping witnesses who may have seen something will come forward. A court date for the suspect, who remains in custody, has yet to be set.


A pickup truck driving with a bright-light bar, but only dimmed headlights drew the attention of police last Thursday night.
A 39-year-old area man was arrested and his vehicle seized after police pulled over a 2014 Dodge truck and learned the driver had given them a false name. Learning his real name, police discovered the man had outstanding warrants as well as a suspended driver’ s licence.
He was arrested for obstructing police driving while suspended and being unlawfully at large.
His court case is coming up this week.


A man who police say was harassing customers at the Main Street Subway shop in Lac La Biche will be in court on April 3 facing charges of mischief. Police say they arrested Donnie Whitford in the afternoon of March 16 after receiving complaints from the public of an intoxicated person harassing people.


Police tracked down a suspected shoplifter last Thursday afternoon with the help of a staff member of the Independent Grocers store in Lac La Biche. Police say a staff member followed a woman out of the store and chased her towards the Tarrabain Motors car lot. Police were called and arrested a 21 year old woman who had been attempting to hide near the dealership’ s car wash. The woman was suspected to have taken approximately $40 worth of store product. She has been charged with theft under $5,000 and will be in Lac La Biche Provincial Court this week to face the charge.


On March 3, of last year officials from the Lac La Biche gas Co-op reported a fraud involving a past employee. A lengthy investigation ensued, and it was determined that the employee had drafted and forged cheques and deposited the money into her personal bank account.
A 51-year-old area woman has been arrested for Forgery, Fraud over $5000, and drawing or executing a document without authorization, so as to defraud.
Shari Hill will appear in LLB Provincial court on April 3.


In the early evening of March 18, RCMP were dispatched to a fight at the Julianna Manor apartments. A 25 year old man was found outside in distress as he had been sprayed with pepper spray. A 27 year old suspect has been located. This matter is still under investigation and charges are pending.
