A day and a half after a Lac La Biche woman died from stab wounds, RCMP have laid charges against 42-year-old Wanda Ladouceur.
The victim, who police have confirmed as Darlene Cardinal, was found on Friday morning in the area of the Metis Nation of Alberta Metis Local 1949 offices near the downtown railyard.
In the first news release since the incident, RCMP said late Saturday night that Cardinal had suffered stab wounds and was unresponsive when police arrived at the scene. She was taken to Lac La Biche's W. J. Cadzow Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be held on Monday, June 25.
Ladouceur will make her first appearance in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on July 9. She has been charged with second degree murder.
A stream of condolences and comments — some from people claiming to be family — have been left on the Lac La Biche Post facebook page. According to most, Cardinal was a kind and caring woman with a lot of family in the area.
