Police say chase near Kikino involved spike strips and collisions

Police say vehicle rammed them to avoid spike belts

Two area men will be in court next week after what local police are describing as a vehicle pursuit that involved the deployment of two spike belts and a police vehicle being "rammed."

Police say the incident played out during the early afternoon of Sunday, February 21, as officers from the Lac La Biche RCMP, the local detachment's Crime Reduction Unit and the St Paul RCMP Police Dog Services arrived in Kikino to arrest a man they say is wanted in connection with a recent armed robbery in Boyle.

Lac La Biche RCMP report that when they arrived at the home, three men sped away in a pickup truck. Police caught up to the vehicle a short time later south of the Kikino townsite near Highway 28. When RCMP tried to stop the vehicle, police say the suspect vehicle "rammed" a patrol vehicle to avoid a tire deflation device and sped away. A pursuit was initiated and police say one of their vehicles was rammed again as  the suspect vehicle attempted to swerve around a second spike belt. The pursuit continued until the truck reportedly lost control and went into the ditch on Range Road 131 A and Township Road 630 north of Whitefish Lake, about 10 kilometres east of the Kikino townsite. Police say all three occupants of the vehicle were arrested without further incident.

There were no reports of serious injuries to police or the suspects.

Rory Allan Cardinal, 30, of Lac La Biche, has been arrested for an outstanding armed robbery warrant. He was remanded into custody and is schedule to appear in Boyle Provincial Court on March 9.

Damion Troy Quintal, 36, of Anzac has been charged with 10 offences, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, two counts of assault with a weapon on a police officer, and two counts of failing to comply with court orders.

Quintal has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on March 8.

The third male in the vehicle was released without charges.
