Program will provide travel tips, vacation options

Book some time at Lac La Biche County libraries for travel planning sessions

If you're looking to book some travel time, why not go to the place that knows all about books? A program designed to help residents plan their next vacation is being run through Lac La Biche Public Libraries. The first session of the new Travel Talks program will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wild Rose Room in Stuart MacPherson Public Library. Other sessions are scheduled for Jan. 31st at 6:30 p.m. and April 24th at 6:30 p.m.

According to Laney Smith, the programming coordinator for Lac La Biche County Libraries, there will be a new facilitator for each individual session, and each session will also have a destination theme. The November 29 session will have a Walt Disney World theme.

The facilitators will provide knowledge and tips to attendees including ways to save time and money, and cut down on many of the stresses associated with travel.

“This will be based on personal past travel experiences and there may be useful resources to help attendees plan their next trip,” Smith explained, adding that the short presentations will be followed by an in-depth question and answer session. “Speakers don’t necessarily need to have travelled to many countries…rather, they will come with in-depth knowledge on a specific place or type of travel.”

Smith said bringing the program to the community has been an idea for some time, with the final details coming together in the past few months. She said library staff are hopeful that the program will benefit travellers of all levels of experience by providing them with tips, suggestions, and new ideas about travel.

“New travellers can get ideas on where to start planning while seasoned travellers may learn about a new place to visit,” she said.

No registration is required in advance for the Travel Talks program sessions. For more information on the travel program, Smith invites residents to take a trip to the Stuart MacPherson or Plamondon library.
