RCMP plane deployed to apprehend suspect on Canada-wide warrant near Lac La Biche

A Fort McMurray man on a Canada-wide warrant was apprehended on May 13 north of Lac La Biche after multiple RCMP units were deployed to a high-risk takedown.

LAC LA BICHE – A 33-year-old Fort McMurray man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant is in custody after a high-risk takedown organized by Alberta Mounties took place on May 13. 

A complaint of a suspicious vehicle parked in a back alley received by Lac La Biche RCMP at 2:50 a.m. on May 13, led police to a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Fort McMurray earlier in the week. 

“Upon police arrival, they located a man passed out behind the wheel, as well as a prohibited firearm on the passenger seat,” states information released by RCMP. 

Officers then attempted a high-risk takedown on the vehicle in order to make an arrest.  

According to police, the driver woke up and was able to maneuver and flee from RCMP in the stolen vehicle. 

Lac La Biche members pursued with the assistance of the north RCMP Emergency Response Team and officers from Fort McMurray.  

The pursuit led to a rural area north of Lac La Biche on logging roads, where the RCMP plane attended and located the suspect vehicle.  

Police Dog Services from St. Paul and Wood Buffalo were called in to assist, and soon after, the suspect was located and taken into custody, states RCMP. 

Mark Andrew Tremblay of Fort McMurray, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large on a parole breach, now faces several more charges. 

Tremblay has been charged with flight from peace officer, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, failing to remain at scene of accident, mischief damage to property over $5,000 and possession stolen property over $5,000. 

The 33-year-old is further charged with obstructing a peace officer, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm in motor vehicle, possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, four counts of possession firearm contrary to court order and possession weapon dangerous purpose. 

Tremblay was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is May 29 at Alberta Court of Justice in Lac La Biche.
