LAC LA BICHE - The lazy, crazy days of summer thrive with fun and excitement, and as the warmer months approach, the Park and Play Fun Van will be a common sight around Lac La Biche County.The brightly-painted van with an inventory of summer activities will be providing local youngsters with endless amusements.
Where exactly did the concept of a colourful van filled with merriment and games originate?
“The initiative was started a few summers ago by the County, who felt the need to have more programming designed to provide outreach and to support the community through free activities and programs,” explained Kristina Oberg, the community recreation supervisor for Lac La Biche County.
Free activities and programs? If that isn’t enough to get somebody into the spirit of summer, the Park and Play Fun Van can also be booked for special events and private functions.
“We provide a wide assortment of activities for children ranging from different sports and physical literacy, as well as arts and crafts,” she stated.
In recent years, this bastion of fun on wheels has had a very visible presence in the local communities, showing up everywhere from birthdays and block parties to major events such as Carnival Night, Hylo Harvest Days, even Canada Day.
“The Park and Play Fun Van initiative has been very popular with the local community,” Oberg said, adding that it isn’t uncommon for the van to booked solid on weekends as well as during the week. “Although our busiest time is in the summer, the van is available year-round.”
