School Closed due to fire evacuation traffic

SCHOOL CANCELLED -- WEDNESDAY MAY 4 -- IN LAC LA BICHE, PLAMONDON & WANDERING RIVER DUE TO EVACUATION TRAFFIC

In a press release issued just after midnight, just eight hours before the doors open to students, Northern Lights School Division is cancelling all classes for NLSD schools in Lac La Biche, Wandering River and Plamondon on May 4. TODAY. They cite a larger than normal traffic volume on area roads due to the evacuation of 80,000 people from Fort McMurray.

The NLSD press release: Due to the emergency situation in Fort McMurray and the impact it is already having on Lac La Biche area communities, Northern Lights has decided to cancel classes at all of its schools in Lac La Biche, Wandering River and Plamondon for Wednesday, May 4.

We recognize that there are a large number of vehicles passing through or staying in these towns. Buses will not be running in order to reduce congestion on local highways and allow emergency personnel to work uninterrupted.

Our schools will remain open for staff. Northern Lights will be monitoring the situation closely and providing assistance where and when it is needed.
