Do you have any new ideas for Pow Wow Days? Then come out to Community Futures tomorrow night a 7 p.m. for the Pow Wow Days Association’ s annual general meeting.

Martin Desjarlais, the association’ s president, welcomes the public to attend a meeting for this year’ s Pow Wow Days. Residents are asked to bring their ideas and thoughts on what type of events and activities they want to see at this year's Pow Wow.

“It’ d be nice to have anyone come out,” said Desjarlais. “The more people interested and the more people who want to come out, the better it is for Pow Wow.”

Desjarlais said the meeting will feature the election of the Lac La Biche Pow Wow board of directors, including the board’ s president, vice-president and treasurer, a review of their 2016 financial statement and discussion about events for this year’ s festival.

He also pointed out that no decisions will be made on what events will take place until board members are elected.

Mel Kuprowsky, the volunteer co-ordinator for Pow Wow, said the annual summer event is a big opportunity for local businesses, and that 10,000 to 15,000 people often attend.

“We invite the whole community to come out and invite everyone to help improve it,” said Kuprowsky. “Bring your ideas and be ready to roll up your sleeves to help make it great.”

Pow Wow Days takes place every year during the Alberta Heritage Day long weekend, which is Aug. 3 to 7 this year. Typical activities featured at the festival include a fish derby, carnival, various live performances and a parade.

Last year’ s parade marshal Lavon Fleming is planning on attending the meeting and already has plenty of new ideas. She feels it should focus on kids and tie in with families but that it is becoming dated and needs new things.

“There isn’ t enough new things. There should be things like rock climbing and zip lining,” said Fleming. “Businesses should join it - it’ s free advertising - and this year there should be a parade theme.”

She also encourages businesses to join in, adding that this year there should be a parade theme.

If you have suggestions for making this year’ s Pow Wow Days bigger and better than ever, come out to Community Futures tomorrow night at 7.
