4,200 lbs collected for local food banks

In just three hours, community members helped to fill up two police cruisers with food weighing over 4,200 lbs and donated hundreds of dollars work of cash for the annual Pack the Police Cruiser organized by the Bonnyville RCMP detachment.

BONNYVILLE - On Saturday, community members helped the Bonnyville RCMP detachment and MD peace officers pack two police cruisers with food weighing over 4,200 lbs, as well as several hundreds of dollars' worth of grocery gift cards in just three hours.

Also, showing up on the sunny Saturday morning to lend a hand was Mr. Claus himself, along with members of the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority.

The food donations received during the charity drive will be split evenly between the Bonnyville Food Bank and the Bonnyville Community Church food bank, said S/Sgt. Sarah Parke.

Cash donations received went towards purchasing grocery gift cards that will also be evenly divided between the two food banks.

Items often needed by food banks that are generally forgotten are diapers and toiletries for men and women, Parke added.
