On the eve of Halloween the Alberta RCMP are asking drivers to be alert, sober and avoid distractions, including costumes.

In a press release the RCMP gave tips on keeping road safe this Halloween, including warning people against driving impaired.

An even higher level of awareness is needed, the press release said, as children will be out trick or treating on streets and sidewalks.

Lastly, when driving with a costume on, police ask people ensure their costumes are safe. They say masks should be removed and anything else that would block your eyesight or could be a distraction.

"Every year on Halloween, we can expect to see an increase in foot traffic," says Insp. Chris Romanchych, Alberta RCMP Traffic. "It's important that everyone, drivers and pedestrians, are taking the proper precautions to ensure that we all have a safe and happy Halloween."
