Ashmont Heritage Days a reunion-like family event

A parade, ball tournament, car show, and plenty more was on the schedule during Ashmont Heritage Days.

ASHMONT – A parade was among the many events that made up Ashmont Heritage Days from Aug. 5-7. Entries to the parade showered the hamlet’s main street with candies as spectators grabbed the sweets, on Aug. 6, kicking off a weekend of fun.

Danny Weinmeier, president of the Ashmont & District Society, said the event was successful and saw a good turnout. He added, Ashmont Heritage Days has always been about trying to get the community together.

“It’s always been kind of a family event and it’s almost like a big reunion,” he said, adding, he is thankful for all the volunteers and those who have come out to be part of the weekend. “It kind of brings people back that you don’t normally [see]. They come a few times a year, but you don’t get to see them, and this event is [where] you see people from the past.”

County of St. Paul Coun. Dale Hedrick and Ashmont-area resident said it was also nice to see the community coming together at the event - gathering, visiting, and having fun.

“Even myself, I got to visit some of my friends that I went to school with that I haven’t seen in years. So, it was really nice and there were lots of people in the community and everyone had a good time,” said Hedrick.

There were multiple activities, which included a pancake breakfast where the Ashmont Fire Department and County councillors flipped pancakes, according to Hedrick. County representatives also took part in the parade, offering candies to youth and spectators.

Hedrick, who helped organized the parade, the car show, and the burnout competition, said prizes and gifts for events like the car show and the burnout competition would not be possible without a list of sponsors.

The weekend also included a ball tournament, lawn mower races, trade show and market garden, kids games, and plenty of other activities.
