ASHMONT - Another Lakeland area school has been the target of online threats, this week. St. Paul RCMP confirmed they had received a report of a post on social media the evening of Oct. 25. The post targeted the K-12 school in Ashmont.

Lakeland Today reached out to police on Wednesday morning, after the social media post was shared by local residents.

"Following an investigation, a youth was charged for uttering threats in relation to the incident," confirmed Kellieka Formanek, Detachment Services Assistant and Media Relations Officer at the St. Paul Detachment.

"Schools and government officials have been made aware of the incident," added Formanek.

The report was initially made to RCMP at about 10:43 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, St. Paul Education released a letter stating the school division was made aware of threats made on social media by an individual that involved Ashmont School.

"The RCMP were immediately notified to investigate," reads the letter.

"As a result of the investigation, it was determined there is no immediate danger to students and staff at Ashmont School. Nonetheless, the RCMP have informed us that they will provide an ongoing presence during the school day."

Increased supervision, along with placing the school in a "hold and secure," were done as precautionary measures on Wednesday. All outside doors were locked and monitored and students were being kept inside the building throughout the day.

"Regular classroom activities continue to occur during this time. Today's volleyball games will be rescheduled," according to the letter from St. Paul Education.

The school division noted that it was committed to ensuring the safety of students and staff and will notify parents and guardians if the situation changes.

The school division remains in contact with local RCMP. Any concerns can be directed to the school division.

Earlier in the week, threats were also made toward a Lac La Biche school.
