Attempted theft of metal scraps leads to arrest

A 64-year-old from Bonnyville has been remanded in custody following an alleged break and enter that occurred at a Bonnyville business on Oct. 24.

BONNYVILLE – A 64-year-old from Bonnyville has been remanded in custody following an alleged break and enter that occurred on Oct. 24. 

At 2:45 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP received a report from a property representative of a local business stating that someone had broken into their shop and that he was remotely watching a perpetrator through a security feed. 

The representative told police that the suspect appeared to be stealing scrap metal.   

RCMP members attended to the call immediately and located the suspect who was allegedly still at the scene. 

Lionel Normand of Bonnyville has been charged with breaking and entering a business, possession of break-in instruments and two counts of failing to comply with a previous release order.   

A Justice of the Peace remanded the 64-year-old into custody.
