Bonnyville couple wake to intruder in apartment

In the last week, RCMP members from the Bonnyville detachment have responded to several serious calls from break and enters to assault and even arson of a residential garage.

BONNYVILLE – A Bonnyville couple woke to the terrifying sound of someone in their apartment early last Saturday morning. 

At 4 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to the second floor of an apartment in the area of 53 St. and 53 Ave. where tenants had reported an intruder.   

Residents of the apartment were woken by the sound of someone breaking things in their living room, according to an RCMP report. 

“The suspect then attempted to enter the couple’s bedroom, but they were able to close the door preventing the suspect from entering,” state RCMP. 

When RCMP members arrived, they arrested an intoxicated 19-year-old man from Bonnyville.  

The 19-year-old was charged with breaking and entering. He is set to appear in court on April 5. 

Bonnyville man charged with assault 

On March 4, Bonnyville RCMP received a complaint that a man known to police had just assaulted someone and was armed with a knife at a residence in the area of 55 Ave. and 55 St.   

Receiving the call around 11 a.m., RCMP responded, located the suspect and arrested him. 

The 35-year-old man from Bonnyville has been charged with assault, uttering threats and two counts of mischief.   

He is set to appear in court on March 15. 

Man attempts to return stolen items before police arrive  

Last Saturday at 12:30 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to an apartment between 44 Ave. and 46 Ave. along 42 St. where a tenant had reported a break and enter. 

The resident told police a man had broken into his apartment and stole multiple televisions, clothing and food.  

As officers arrived on scene, they located the 46-year-old male suspect from Kehewin attempting to return the victim’s belongings prior to police attending, according to RCMP.   

The man was arrested and charged with breaking and entering. He is set to appear in court on April 5. 

Arson charges laid in garage fire 

On March 7 at 12:40 p.m. the Bonnyville RCMP and Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority were called to a residential address in the area of 52 Ave. and 51 St. for a garage fire.   

RCMP arrived on scene and learned of an alleged argument that had taken place between the residents of the house and a 32-year-old man from La Corey.   

RCMP arrested the 32-year-old man and have charged him with arson, breaking and entering and five counts of failing to comply with a release condition.   

He is set to appear in court on March 15.
