BONNYVILLE - Books are flying off the shelf at the Bonnyville Municipal Library - not to borrow, but to own.
Every year, the Bonnyville Municipal Library hosts a book sale to raise funds for the not-for-profit municipal facility.
Roughly 25 per cent of the books for sale come from the library's own catalogue, 25 per cent comes from other libraries, and about 50 per cent of books sold are donated from the community, explained Jessica Robbins, a staff member of the Bonnyville library.
"The books of ours that we sell, are ones that may not have been taken out or looked at in a year or more. They take up valuable real estate on our shelves and so it's good when we can make room for some new books that may be in more demand," Robbins said.
Generally, the library accepts donated books throughout the year, but had to stop receiving donations at the beginning of summer due to a lack of storage space.
"We had a few thousand books donated, and no where else to store them," she said.
With items costing anywhere between 50 cents and $5, books, DVDs, CDs and audio books are moving quickly.
The sale will continue during regular library hours until Oct. 3.
