BONNYVILLE – On Saturday night, the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre (C2) was evacuated and closed as RCMP investigated a report that a person with a firearm was in the community facility.
The time that the firearm complaint was lodged with the RCMP detachment was not provided by police, however an advisory to avoid the C2 and area was issued around 6:30 p.m.
The C2 was officially closed to the public as of 7 p.m. Saturday evening and will remain closed until 8 a.m. on Sunday, Jan.29, according to the C2.
“The RCMP responded to a report of an incident at the C2,” read information released by the Centennial Centre. "The police have everything under control. All staff and guests that were present this evening are safe"
RCMP members attended the C2 and spoke with witnesses.
The investigation found that no shots were fired in the facility, no firearm was located, and there have been no injuries reported, according to an RCMP press release.
Bonnyville RCMP are continuing to investigate the firearm complaint.
"There is no threat to the public," say police.
An additional release may be issued pending the continued investigation.
