Bonnyville RCMP respond to thefts in progress

Due to rapid reporting, Bonnyville RCMP responded to a vehicle theft in progress as well as a break and enter in progress witnessed through a live security feed over the past week.

BONNYVILLE – Over the past seven days, the Bonnyville RCMP responded to three break and enters. Of the break and enters, two occurred at businesses within the Town of Bonnyville and one took place at a rural property along Highway 41. 

On Nov. 5 at 4:40 a.m., the Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter in progress at a business located at 56 Ave., between 60 St. and 61 St.  

According to RCMP, the owner could see the culprit live on security camera, however, while RCMP were en route the culprit escaped through the back of the business.  

“The matter is ongoing and the RCMP will be utilizing the video surveillance footage during the investigation,” say police.  

On Nov. 2, the Bonnyville RCMP were informed of a business that had been broken into and had thousands of dollars' worth of tools stolen. The break-in and theft occurred at 47 Ave. between 60 St. and 61 St. 

In the same week, Bonnyville RCMP received a report of a fifth wheel trailer being broken into and severely damaged on Nov. 4.   

RCMP say “the trailer had been parked at a rural property along Highway 41 near Township Road 612.   

Truck damaged but not stolen 

On Oct. 29 at 2:50 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP received call of a vehicle theft in progress at a business parking lot at 50 Ave. between 60 St. and 61 St. 

According to RCMP, the members who attended the call noted a white F-350 had been damaged, however, the suspect(s) were reported to have driven off in a maroon truck prior to police arriving. 

All of these matter remain under investigation. Anyone with information regarding these incidences are urged to contact Bonnyville RCMP or Crimestoppers. 

RCMP respond to trespasser  

On Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m. Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Kehewin to remove an unwanted man who was suspected of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol.   

According to RCMP, “the male was being abusive and refusing to leave. RCMP attended and located the male who resisted arrest.”   

A 43-year-old man from Kehewin Cree Nation is facing charges of mischief, resisting arrest and four counts of failing to comply with his probation order.   

A bail hearing was held and the Justice released the man on a $50 cash bail.  His court appearance is set for Nov. 23 at the Bonnyville Provincial Courts.
