RCMP members have responded to calls related to vehicle stunting and gasoline theft over the last week.

BONNYVILLE – During the noon hour of Feb. 28, Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a local hotel parking lot following a call that reported teens were stunting in their vehicles in the area.

One of the vehicles got stuck in a snowbank, according to police.

When the RCMP member arrived, it was determined that both drivers had been stunting and driving too fast.

Both drivers, two 16-year-old males from Bonnyville, were issued traffic violation tickets and warnings, according to RCMP.

Gasoline theft

Bonnyville RCMP were alerted to a man that was trying to steal fuel from the industrial area on Feb. 27 at 5:45 a.m.

An RCMP member later located a vehicle matching the description and pulled it over and determined the driver matched the description of the suspect.

“A jerry can and hose were located inside his vehicle, which had a licence plate that didn’t match the vehicle,” according to police.

The 35-year-old male from Cold Lake was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of break in instruments/tools, driving while suspended and two counts of failing to comply with a release condition.

“Despite the fact that he was already on a different Release Order from other charges, the male was released by a Justice of the Peace on more conditions without bail,” states the press release by RCMP.

His first appearance date is March 22 in Bonnyville Provincial Courts.

Driving while suspended

While carrying out a roadside check with a truck parked in Kehewin at 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 25, RCMP members determined the vehicle and its licence plate did not match.

Although there was nobody in the driver’s seat, there were several passengers who advised police that the driver was in a nearby business.

“The member advised the occupants that the licence plate didn’t match, and he suspected the vehicle didn’t have registration as a result and advised them to keep the truck parked until the licence plate and registration were in order.”

Half an hour later, the member reportedly located the same truck in motion on Road 2 in Kehewin.

The officer conducted a roadside check again with the vehicle. Meanwhile a van that was travelling with the truck also pulled over, police say.

The member spoke with the driver of the truck who was able to produce valid insurance and was issued warnings on the registration and licence plate.

Afterward, the member spoke with the driver of the van who turned out to be on outstanding warrants, as well as a suspended driver.

The 18-year-old woman from Onion Lake was arrested and ticketed with driving while suspended.
