Boyle man facing numerous charges after RCMP standoff in mobile home park

BOYLE - A two-and-a-half hour standoff last Tuesday afternoon that kept residents of a Boyle mobile home park locked inside their homes and several streets in the village blocked to traffic, ended with the arrest of a 54-year old  man.

Boyle  RCMP say they were called to a residence at the Boyle Trailer Park at around 4:30 on Tuesday afternoon after receiving a complaint about an assault. When they arrived, police say a suspect barricaded himself inside the home, allegedly threatening officers with a knife.

Alberta RCMP spokesperson Corp. Troy Savinkoff said police cordoned off the area and advised neighbouring residents to lock their doors and stay inside.

The RCMP Police Dog Services were called to the scene, along with the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team.

Savinkoff said the suspect came out of the home at about 6:50 pm. The suspect reportedly picked up another knife as he came out, but was safely subdued by police. Savinkoff said there were no physical injuries reported.

Darren Bancroft, 54, of Boyle is charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, assault with a weapon, assault by choking, three counts of failing to comply with court-ordered conditions, two counts of uttering threats, a charge of mischief under $5,000 and la charge of mischief over $5,000.

A court date is pending. Bancroft was taken into custody and held.
