ST. PAUL - A stretch of Highway 36, near Township Road 580 and within the County of St. Paul, was closed for nearly 12 hours as police investigated a two-vehicle head-on collision on Dec. 28.

The collision resulted in minor injuries to both drivers of the vehicles, but police also determined an investigation should take place, and the highway was shut down as the investigation took place.

Since then, charges have been laid against a 61-year-old man from Saddle Lake.

"Upon investigation, it was determined that a male driving one of the vehicles was impaired. He was arrested and brought to the St. Paul Detachment for a judicial hearing," according to St. Paul RCMP.

Roland Jackson has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired causing bodily harm; operating a motor vehicle without holding an operator’s licence; driving an uninsured vehicle, and other charges.

Jackson was remanded into custody and is set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on Jan. 3.

Police were initially called to the incident at about 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday. The road was reopened shortly before 8 p.m.
