COLD LAKE - The Cold Lake hospital emergency department (ED) will once again be temporarily without an on-site physician for periods of time this week.

From 11 p.m. on Monday to 7 a.m. on Tuesday, services at the ED will be affected. They will once again be affected from 11 p.m. on Feb. 16 to 7 a.m. on Feb. 17.

"This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time," according to information from Alberta Health Services, released on Feb. 14 in the early afternoon.

"Nursing staff will remain on-site in the ED providing triage and assessments, and referrals for patients to alternate EDs in surrounding communities as needed."

As always, people are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS will be re-routed to surrounding healthcare centres to ensure local residents have access to the emergency services they need.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.

"We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time," says AHS.
