COLD LAKE - The Cold Lake Healthcare Centre Emergency Department will temporarily be without physician coverage starting at 11 p.m. tonight (Oct. 3) until 7 a.m. on Oct. 4, and again on Oct. 5 at 11 p.m. until Oct. 6 at 7 a.m.

"This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time. If coverage is found, this disruption may be cancelled," reads a public service announcement from Alberta Health Services (AHS).

"Nursing staff will remain on-site in the ED providing triage and assessments, and referrals for patients to alternate EDs in surrounding communities as needed."

Patients are told to call 911 if they have a medical emergency and EMS will be available to the community but will be re-routed to other healthcare centres in the area.

Residents are also reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.

"We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time," according to AHS.
