BONNYVILLE – On Dec. 9, at about 3:50 p.m., members from RCMP’s Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit (LCRU) were conducting patrols in a residential area in the Town of Bonnyville when they observed an older model Ford pickup truck driving dangerously on the public roadway.

According to a statement released by LCRU, police had attempted a traffic stop with the subject vehicle, however, the driver proceeded to make attempts to flee from the area.

Due to the snowy road conditions, police say the suspect was unable to evade police for long. The driver of the vehicle was then arrested without further incident.

RCMP have laid several Criminal Code and Traffic Safety Act offences against Sam Allan Nunweiler of Bonnyville in relation to the incident.

The 19-year-old was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, failing to comply with release order conditions (x3), operation of a motor vehicle without holding a valid operator's licence, operation of an unregistered motor vehicle, and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

Nunweiler was held for a bail hearing where he was released by a Justice of the Peace on cash bail release order. He is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on Jan. 18, 2022.
