Delays expected today for school bus home trips

School division issues message that snowy roads have slowed down Lakeland travel

Officials with Northern Lights Public  Schools have issued a notification to parents that home-time bus travel may take a little longer than normal today, due to a wide-sweeping blast of winter that left area roads covered with ice and snow.

In a statement released at the last bell of the day for most regional schools, NLPS officials are advising families that students may be arriving home later than expected.

Bus status

"Please be advised that due to current road and weather conditions throughout the region, it is going to take longer for our bus drivers to complete their routes and drop students off at home this afternoon," states the announcement. "Please monitor our Bus Status app and our website: https://www.nlpsab.ca/transportation/bus-status for information on bus delays and cancellations."

The winter storm that swept across northern and central Alberta dropped upwards of four inches of snow in some part of the region, including mixtures of sleet and freezing rain pushed by wind gusts up to 75 kph.
