VILNA - Only one ward within the Aspen View Public Schools area will see an election take place this fall, as all other wards had only one candidate step forward, including the ward that borders the St. Paul region to the west.

Aspen View released information on Sept. 20, stating an election was called in Ward 2 (North Central). Trustees have been acclaimed in all other wards.

Anne Karczmarczyk, Dennis MacNeil, and Amber Scmidt have put their named forward as candidates, but only two will be elected to serve on the board. Ward 2 includes Athabasca and the surrounding area.

Aspen View Public Schools has declared the following candidates elected by acclamation, as they were the only candidates to submit nomination forms in their respective wards:

Ward 1 (Northwest) - Cindy Lutz (Smith area)

Ward 3 (Northeast) - Candyce Nikipelo (Boyle area)

Ward 4 (Southwest): - April Bauer (Thorhild area)

Ward 5 (South Central): - Elohne Chizawsky (Smoky Lake area)

Ward 6 (Southeast): - Donna Cherniwchan (Vilna area)

In a statement made after being acclaimed, Cherniwchan said that "During a time when we feel such divisiveness, I know we can wholeheartedly agree that all children deserve access to quality educational experiences. I’m here to listen, learn, and advocate for our rural students. I am thankful for this opportunity to serve my community."
