Elk Point RCMP recover stolen vehicles

Elk Point - On April 14, Elk Point RCMP with assistance from the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit, RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Air Services located and arrested a male that was wanted in connection to a flight from police and theft of motor vehicles.

A stolen car that had fled previously from police was located and proceeded to flee again. RCMP Air Services were able to track the car to a residence in Frog Lake. Two suspects fled into the residence where they surrendered to police a short time later, without incident.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence and police recovered a stolen ATV, car and truck.

The items had previously been reported stolen from Ardmore, Bonnyville and the Frog Lake area.

Adam Keegan Smith,18, of Lloydminster and Daiden Desjarlais, 19, of Cold Lake were jointly charged with flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Smith, who was wanted at the time of his arrest, was also charged with operation while prohibited and failing to comply with release order. He was remanded into custody and was slated to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on April 23, via CCTV.

Desjarlais was released after a judicial hearing and is set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on July 2.
