Emergency Alert sent out for area in Lac La Biche County

Lac La Biche County says wildfire did not grown overnight.

UPDATE - An update from Lac La Biche County this morning (Friday) states there was no fire growth overnight.

"The fire is still classified as being out of control. The fire conditions are expected to increase as the day progresses. Fire crews are back this morning assessing the area and deploying resources. Roughly 230 hectares are affected by this fire," reads the statement from the County.

People are asked to continue to avoid the area.

"The residences that have already been spoken to are still under evacuation alert," according to the County.

LAC LA BICHE - Alberta firefighters are battling blazes in the province this evening, with Alberta Emergency Alerts going out to residents in two areas - including a portion of Lac La Biche County. 

At 6:15 p.m. on May 6 (Thursday), an alert was posted on the Alberta Emergency Alert Page, asking residents near Township Road 652 and Range Road 165 in Lac La Biche County to "prepare for possible evacuation."

"There is an active wildfire burning near Township Road 652 and Range Road 165 in Lac La Biche County. It is currently affecting traffic along Highway 855, north of the Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement," reads the alert, that has not been updated since.

Instructions in the information alert state: "Avoid the area. If you live in the area, prepare for possible evacuation."

An alert on 511 Alberta says "Traffic on Highway 855, north of Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement, is impacted by a wildfire burning in the area of Township Road 652 and Range Road 165 in Lac La Biche County. Drive with caution in the area, or choose an alternate route."

Parkland County

A "critical" alert was posted at 8:56 p.m. for an area of Parkland County, also due to wildfire. Parkland County is located west of Edmonton.

"There is a wildfire west of Tomahawk in the area of Range Road 62 and Range Road 70, and Township Roads 510 and 514. It is moving rapidly in a northwest direction," reads the alert.

The instructions on the alert state: "Fire growth is expected due to windy conditions. Crews will be working overnight to contain the fire. Please take all necessary precautions, including leaving the area. Residents who live west of range road 62 to the western border of Parkland County should be prepared for possible immediate evacuation."

Dry conditions continue to plague many parts of the province, increasing the risk of wildfire.
