Federal PPC candidate issues terse statement on new provincial COVID rules

Statement to media from Shawn McDonald, People's Party of Canada candidate for Fort McMurray-Cold Lake riding

Wednesday, September 15, 2021

I, and our PPC platform, OPPOSES everything the current damage the Kenney government has inflicted on Albertans today and previously.

September 15th - New restrictions and mandates imposed by the UCP government today once again are an attack on every Albertan’s freedom, is incomprehensible and simply does not make sense. This has been reflected in each and every "wave" Alberta has experienced.

We are no longer on a slippery slope of losing our freedoms, our businesses, and our livelihoods. We are now in a full blown mudslide that many knew already started over a year ago. Alberta has already seen a 10.5% increase in personal bankruptcies in the first quarter of 2021 – the highest in Canada.  Back in May, 27% of businesses were already considering permanent closure.  With this latest announcement, how many more small businesses and restaurants are we going to lose?  The weight of the “NO LONGER OPEN, IT'S FALL” lockdowns not only segregates people by medical choice, but now puts a huge burden on businesses that have already been fighting to stay afloat for the past 19 months.

The People's Party of Canada opposes these measures that negatively target our freedoms, small businesses and families.

The former UCP MLA in my riding of Fort McMurray - Lac La Biche fully supported Kenney and the destruction of our economy, jobs, small businesses, industries, relationships, mental health and the social fabric of our communities.

The suffering they have caused is unforgivable. Upon the MLA’s sudden departure we are now left without provincial representation in these very dire times to address and act on behalf of the constituents of this riding.

It is a sad day for our riding, and a sad day for Albertans.

Myself and the PPC will vehemently oppose these lockdowns and vaccine passports that remove our freedoms and unlawfully go against our Charter Rights and Freedoms.  This is against our Constitution and we will always fight to maintain and support the rights of Canadians.

Please choose wisely on Monday, September 20th when you cast your vote.  A vote for me, is a vote for: a voice of reason, a voice for protection of the vulnerable and for protection of our small businesses and restaurants, which are such a vital part of our economy, and voice for our freedoms.

Shawn McDonald

PPC Candidate - Fort McMurray - Cold Lake
