UPDATE: RCMP say suspect no longer believed to be in the area

A search for an alleged armed suspect near the Goodfish Lake townsite concluded a few hours after it began, but no suspect was brought into custody.

RCMP report there is an "unfolding event" happening in the North West quadrant of the city. The RCMP are asking residents to avoid the area.

GOODFISH LAKE - Several police officers were in Goodish Lake on Wednesday evening, as they worked to locate a suspect that was believed to be armed. 

The initial RCMP media release was sent out at about 9:18 p.m. on Aug. 27. By 1 a.m. on Aug. 28, RCMP reported they were clear from the area.

"Although unsuccessful in locating the suspect, RCMP have conducted an extensive search and no longer believe the suspect is in the area," reads the updated media release from St. Paul RCMP.

The incident took place near the Goodfish Lake townsite. In the first media release, RCMP noted there was "no active threat towards community members," but they did ask residents to call 911 if they noticed anything suspicious.
