ST. PAUL - On Monday, the County of St. Paul announced a fire restriction was in effect, as of 10 a.m., that day.
Due to dry conditions, the fire restriction has been put in place, effective April 19, "and is in effect until further notice," according to the County of St. Paul.
The restriction means that no new fire permits will be issued, and fire permits issued earlier have now been suspended.
"No open fires are allowed in the County of St. Paul," according to information from the municipality.
Safe campfires in approved fire pits are allowed. Gas or propane stoves or barbecues and portable propane fire pits are also allowed.
However, no campfires or other open fires or charcoal briquettes are allowed in back country or random camping areas.
On Friday, the St. Paul Fire Department spent eight hours at the grazing reserve, located in the Lac Bellevue area, south of St. Paul.
"A prescribed burn jumped a fire guard and spread to some bush," said Fire Chief Trevor Kotowich. "With lots of help from the grazing reserve association volunteers, County (of St. Paul) dozer, and farmers with equipment, we were able to prevent it from spreading to a subdivision south of Lac Bellevue."
Information regarding fire bans and other advisories in place can be accessed at the Alberta Fire Bans website.
