BONNYVILLE – On an exceptionally balmy Saturday, families arrived at the Bonnyville Splash Park to take part in several outdoor winter activities ranging from igloo building to sleigh rides and even a storytelling activity.
The family-friendly event organized by the Bonnyville Friendship Centre was originally intended to be an afternoon of ice fishing geared toward youth on Moose Lake. However, the unseasonably warm weather caused organizers to pivot the event.
Those who attended the Feb. 12 event, had the opportunity to take part in a storytelling activity that involved both Cree and English words. Youth who correctly answered questions relating to the story orated by Cultural Coordinator Bredner Lewis received $20 in cold hard cash.
Families also had the chance to take a ride on a horse pulled sleigh and build igloos with equipment provided by organizers.
Friendship Centre volunteers also served beverages and tacos in a bag.
