Glendon man charged with manslaughter of infant

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating the death of 17-day-old baby at the Bonnyville hospital. Blair David Johnson of Glendon faces charges of manslaughter in connection to the infant's death.

A Glendon man has been charged with manslaughter in relation to a 17-day-old's death.

GLENDON – A Glendon man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a 17-day-old infant on Feb. 21.

Bonnyville RCMP received a report from the Bonnyville Heathcare Centre relating to the death of the infant at about 8:15 p.m. on Feb. 21. Since the circumstances surrounding the sudden death were deemed suspicious, RCMP members attended the hospital to investigate.  

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has since taken over the investigation. 

An autopsy was completed by the Chief Medical Examiner at the Edmonton Office two days after the reported death on Feb. 23.  

The manner of death was determined to be homicide, according to an RCMP press release. 

The investigation by Alberta RCMP Major Crimes resulted in the arrest a man on March 5, in relation to the homicide of the child.

Blair David Johnson, 29, from Glendon, is facing charges of manslaughter in connection to the homicide of the infant. 

Following a judicial hearing, Blair was remanded to custody. He is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on March 8. 

As this matter is now before the courts, no further information can be provided by RCMP.
