LAKELAND – Glenn van Dijken, representing the United Conservative Party (UCP), has been re-elected in the Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock riding.

The Lakeland region communities of Mallaig, Vilna, St. Lina, Ashmont, and Spedden are within the constituency.

As of 12:35 a.m., 32 voting locations out of 34 have reported results, with van Dijken leading with 10,589 votes against NDP candidate Landen Tischer’s 3,114 votes.

“We’re very happy with the results. We felt, all along, that we were in a good position to win the riding here,” said van Dijken, adding he feels humbled to serve the constituency once again.

According to van Dijken, the UCP will keep on doing what the party has done over the last four years, which includes creating jobs and rebuilding the economy. In addition, he said the UCP is also committed to continue working on a platform of low taxation, while also encouraging investment and diversification in the economy.

He believes the province is in a good position to “write the next chapter of success in Alberta,” and he looks forward to serving constituents for the next four years.

He is also excited to serve under Premier elect Danielle Smith, stating Smith is more than competent and capable of leading the party through the next term.

“I believe that Albertans will be able to see a leader they can be proud of going forward.”

Danielle Smith has also been re-elected in the Brooks-Medicine Hat riding, winning with 13,265 votes. Alberta NDP candidate Gwendoline Dirk received 5,460 votes, while Alberta Party leader Barry Morishita received 1,228 votes.
