BONNYVILLE – While driving to work on Highway 657, a passing motorist noticed that a residence east of Bonnyville was on fire at about 11 a.m., March 16.

The motorist not only called 911 but stopped at the property to make sure no one was inside the home, according to Regional Fire Chief Dan Heney of the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA).

The concerned citizen was unable to see or get a response from anyone inside the home.

“The BRFA was able to confirm later on in the response that no occupants were in the home at the time of the fire, as both were at work,” Heney told Lakeland Today

However, the cause of the fire is currently deemed suspicious in nature.

The BRFA and the RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident, confirmed Staff Sgt. Sarah Parke and the Regional Fire Chief.
