LAKELAND - A heat warning is in effect for a large portion of the province on July 31, including the Lakeland region.
According to Environment Canada, daytime high temperatures will be near 30 degrees Celsius, with overnight temperatures staying in the 14 to 18 degrees Celsius range. The hot conditions are expected to last the rest of the week.
"The heat warnings will end this weekend as daytime high temperatures return to the mid twenty degree Celsius range," reads the warning.
"Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion," according to the weather warning.
Tips
If you are in the region under the heat warning, there are several things that can be done to stay safe, such as rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day and taking frequent breaks from the heat.
"Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated," according to the weather warning.
Also, check for children and pets before exiting a vehicle.
"Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed vehicle, for any length of time."
Also, "Monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness."
