LAKELAND - High winds and blowing snow are making the morning commute a challenge for many in the region.
A blowing snow advisory was updated this morning on the Environment Canada website, and includes the entire Lakeland region.
"Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow, with strong wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h, will develop this morning and end late this afternoon," reads the statement from Environment Canada.
Travel is expected to be dangerous because of reduced visibility. Motorists have reported vehicles pulled to the side of the road in some areas.
Blowing snow advisories are issued when winds cause poor visibility, lasting for at least three hours.
A snowfall warning is also in place for the region, with 10 to 20 cm of snow expected today (Monday). The snow is expected to end this afternoon.
"Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow," according to Environment Canada.
While students within St. Paul Education schools didn't have to worry about getting to school on Monday due to it being a PD day, some areas did cancel buses due to the wintery road conditions, such as Northern Lights Public Schools.
